Time to redefine Marketing - it's about the 5 E's | 06/05/10 The traditional definition of marketing as being Product, Price, Place & Promotion has been around a long time. More recent definitions suggest that Marketing is any activities aimed at a customer which help a company to make a profit. Well the reality in the hotel industry is that in most cases we are just given the product to market, with limited involvement in its development. Pricing is now the domain of the Revenue Managment function. Similarly ‘Place’, whether meaning the location of the hotel, which we have no influence over, or the place your product is sold, these channels are again the responsibility of the Revenue Managers, so Place is no longer within our domain. So, what is marketing in 2010? I believe it is now the 5E’s of Excitement, Engagement, Ease of Purchase, Evaluation & Exchange of Views. more
European Chain Hotels Market Review – October 2009 | 01/12/09 London defies gloom as Europe continues to decline! With the notable exception of London, all the cities surveyed in October 2009 experienced declines in RevPAR levels. Jonathan Langston, managing director, TRI Hospitality Consulting, stated: ‘Whilst the decline in occupancy levels seems to be stabilising across Europe, there is still significant downward pressure on average room rates, particularly in markets heavily reliant on leisure demand’. Through the current recession, London’s strong performance has been the bright spot in the European hotel market. In the face of lower levels of corporate demand, the city successfully tapped into the leisure market, containing declines in performance levels. more
European Chain Hotels Market Review – September 2009 | 18/11/09 London leads the way in a mixed month of performances in Europe London hoteliers experienced in September an increase in monthly Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) for the first time since August 2008, according to the latest HotStats survey by industry experts TRI Hospitality Consulting. Meanwhile, hotels in Budapest, Munich and Prague continued to suffer major declines in RevPAR performance. more

28% of business travellers actively use consumer review sites | 18/11/09 Research from leading market research agency BDRC (www.bdrc.co.uk) shows that the consumer trend of scouring the internet for hotel recommendations is now de rigueur for corporate travellers. Whilst it’s quite well known that leisure travellers research the opinions of fellow travellers when booking independent travel, the research indicates that the sites such as TripAdvisor have a phenomenal impact on where business travellers chose to rest their sleepy heads for the night. Based on recent survey data, BDRC calculates that user review sites and blogs influence decisions on hotels choices to the tune of £500m every year. more |
