Pamela Carvell has been conducting Sales & Marketing Audits for international and domestic hotels for almost 20 years. In one year alone she audited over 30 InterContinental hotels in Europe. Typically a chain will appoint her to conduct an audit in a property that has problems, or a brand new property to ensure rapid adoption of excellent practices, but once they have experienced the value that she brings to the business her remit gets extended to all hotels! This happened with InterContinental (for whom she has conducted audits for over 10 years), Concorde and Corinthia and on a smaller scale Kempinski.
Her extensive international Sales, Marketing & Revenue Management experience, coupled with analytical business skills, empathy with people and a very detailed hands-on approach mean that an audit by Pamela reflects both the macro and micro levels at which the business functions. Her recommendations have turned businesses around, with the result that the audits often become an annual process, to maintain the momentum. She prides herself on keeping up-to-date with the modern-day hotel business and the changing ways business is booked, as well as the whole digital marketing arena, Revenue Management (which she first introduced in a hotel in 1995 and continues to conduct training in!) and the ever-changing behaviour of consumers. Her audit recommendations will always focus on the areas that will have the greatest impact on the business and may range from restructuring of responsibilities, to greater working with third parties, to new marketing strategies, introduction of Key Client management, improved sales skills or simply improved working procedures to increase the conversion rate of MICE business. Coming from a corporate background herself, she is always mindful of ensuring a hotel complies with corporate standards, where applicable. Pamela offers a unique combination of expertise and experience in sales, marketing, revenue management, digital marketing, Opera and communications. Coupled with her maturity, attention-to-detail, strategic-thinking and excellent inter-personal skills, she is the perfect auditor! We have launched 4 new hotel audits for 2011: MICE Audit Communications Audit Digital Marketing Audit Pamela has been passionate about Marketing since discovering it as part of her BSc Hons degree in Management Sciences, when studying at the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST). She decided to do a dissertation in Marketing, choosing as her subject ‘The Marketing of Switzerland as a Tourist Destination to the British market’. Little did she know then, that she would spend much of her life working in international hotel marketing! She worked for Unipart, DDB & Maritz before joining Holiday Inns and becoming Marketing Director EMEA. She started Pampas Marketing in 1991 and has undertaken major international projects for companies as diverse as InterContinental Hotels and EMI. In one year she conducted Sales & Marketing Audits in 35 5 star hotels across Europe. In a another year she did 50 overseas business trips in the year. More recently she undertook a 12 month contract to help establish the Folio Hotels brand in the UK. She was Industrial Fellow at the University of Surrey, on their Hospitality Management degree course for 2 years. She was a board member of the Football Licensing Authority (part of DCMS) for 6 years. She is a member of the CIM. She was Chairman of the Hotel Marketing Association for 10 years and is now its Life President. She is a Master Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming. And is very proud of the fact that she received the last ever President’s Award from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, for her contribution to hotel marketing.
